Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for visiting my website. I’m Rebecca, and I’m running for APS School Board.

I was raised in the North Valley, where I still live today. I can’t remember a time that I didn’t want to be an educator. I remember telling my mother that I was going to be a public school teacher when I grew up.

I did just that. I taught for 27 years at Albuquerque Public Schools, at Washington, Jimmy Carter, and Garfield Middle Schools.

APS runs in my blood—both my parents taught at APS, my husband teaches P.E. at Valley High School, my four children attended APS, and now my three grandchildren are all in APS.

Now it’s time for me to give back. I’m running for school board because I believe we need a voice on the school board we can trust. A voice that listens to parents and families, understands teachers and what it means to build community. I am ready to be that voice.

We all have our “why”. Mine are the kids and families I’ve taught, but also my sister Sara. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October of 2017, and by May of 2018, she had passed away. I watched her battle cancer with incredible bravery, grace, and unwavering strength. Despite the pain and uncertainty, she showed up for her family, kept her humor, and never stopped fighting. Sara faced something unimaginably hard and never lost her spirit. Her courage and love left a permanent mark on me. Watching her fight reminded me how precious life is and how important it is to live with purpose, kindness, and resilience.

I know what it is like to wake up everyday and think about the needs of my students and families in my classroom. I will bring those bright eyes, raised hands, and warm hugs with me to school board meetings and you can trust me not to forget who we are making decisions for.

I’d love your support for this campaign. It’s not about me, it’s about all of us.

Very sincerely,
